CBD researched for effectiveness as Superbug Antibiotic
WebMD recently published an article regarding CBD’s effectiveness as an antibiotic. Researchers at the Centre for Superbug Solutions at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland in Australia tested CBD with a wide variety of bacteria. Notably, including some bacteria that have become resistant to commonly used treatments.
Presenting at the American Society for Microbiology, the researchers said: “In every case, CBD had a very similar potency to that of common antibiotics. While their results even showed CBD killing bacteria in half the time that Vancomycin acted against the same bugs. In addition, the lab studies showed that “CBD is much less likely to cause resistance than the existing antibiotics.
This is a study worth following. Please note the research results are promising but in the early stages. And that it’s much too early to self-treat infections with CBD.
WebMD offers a series of articles about CBD and is a good resource for understanding its efficacy and best uses.
